Who Else Wants More Customers Demanding Their Architect / Builder / Developer Use Specific Branded Product(s) When Building Or Renovating ?

My wife, Kristina Cope (Registered Environmental Architect) and I, Simon Cope (Internet Marketing Consultant & Renewable Energy Specialist) are about to complete the final stage of our environmentally friendly house in Meadowbank, Auckland.

  • Stage 1: ~200m2 was completed in 2004

  • Stage 2: ~400m2 completed June 2010

Total of 609m2 on prime north facing property with easy access and ample parking next to the Meadowbank railway station.

Like our first house it has had, and with the completion of the building this year, will continue to get, extensive online attention from this website ( and also offline media attention and coverage on National TV and in the NZ Herald and suburban newspapers for the following reasons:

  • The house generates 90% of all its own power needs using photovoltaic solar electric modules on the roof. A total of 4kW of modules valued at over $60,000 dollars this is one of the largest (if not largest) domestic solar electric systems in NZ

  • Using a separate bank of solar hot water panels, it produces ample hotwater for domestic use: showers + underfloor heating and radiators for ambient air heating.

  • During winter months hotwater is boosted by wetback on fireplace.

  • In 2010 we hope to have the one of the first installations of a NZ designed and made used oil boiler providing oodles of hot water for boosting during winter months (in perfect harmony with lower sunshine hours during winter months) to run our radiators efficiently.

  • Rainwater will be collected on site, purified and reticulated throughout the house.

  • All external AND internal walls, floors, ceiling have the highest rated insulation used to minimise heating requirements

  • Where at all possible, the most energy efficient appliances and lights (readily available for the public to also purchase in NZ) are used throughout the house.

  • It also attracts business owners and stakeholders because the house also has two home-based businesses based there – 7 computers, 4 staff. Businesses is global – both online entities: My wife Kristina runs – attracting 80,000 to 100,000 unique visitors a month to this website from around NZ and the world and has already attracted international attention and kudos. One of the most visited pages on this successful website is the ‘About Us’ page which in turn drives people to this website. In addition my business website: – attracting 500 to 1000 business owners a month to this website from around NZ

From groups of school children to groups of environmentally in-tune adults, the Auckland based Solar Energy House in Meadowbank has between 800 to 1000 people visiting it a year who pay to visit and have a formal tour throughout the house, stopping, touching and learning about the wide variety of features of the house to then leave keen to contact the various manufacturers and service providers listed in the material they take home with them...
